Emergency Medicine and the “IFAK”:  What you need to know to survive!

Presenter - Bill "Doc" Harris

This seminar, presented by First CARE Provider, is an interactive discussion about the life saving trauma equipment and training programs available to the public. Fifteen plus years of combat has led to significant advancements in the field of emergency medicine, improved science and technological capabilities coupled with an evidence based approach has resulted in the highest casualty survival rating in the history of combat. The equipment and training has made its way into our first responder organizations and is slowly making its way into the lives of every day citizens.

Individual First Aid Kits (IFAK’s), trauma kits, bleeding control kits, first aid boxes, AED’s, tourniquets, bandages, and hemostatic agents come in all different shapes and sizes, and colors. What should you be carrying? What are you legally authorized to utilize in an emergency? Are you protected by the Good samaritan laws? Who should you be listening to?

Join us as we discuss these topics and demystify the confusion surrounding trauma care, tactical medicine, medical equipment, acronyms, and what should be included in your Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK).

Topics that will be covered include: trauma kit essentials, the purpose of each component, military -vs- civilian kits, improvising, training programs, Stop the Bleed, Committee for Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (C-TECC) guidelines for First Care Providers
