Successfully completing the Instructor Development Workshop (IDW) earns individuals the NRA instructor credentials required to teach the Refuse To Be A Victim® Seminar in their communities. Must purchase and attend either the Friday or Saturday Refuse to be a Victim basic workshop as a prerequisite.
Meet Ed O'Carroll
Ed O'Carroll began his career with the Fairfax County (Virginia) Police Department on September 11, 1989. Prior to his law enforcement career, Ed was served as an Emergency Medical Technician and Assistant Chief of an Ambulance Squad in Hauppauge, New York. During his 28 years with the Fairfax County Police Department, Ed has served in numerous assignments, most recently as the internal affairs division commander and director/Major of the Public Affairs Bureau.
Ed currently serves as Executive Counselor for Refuse to Be A Victim and has lectured all across the United States, teaching thousands of people all aspects of personal safety. Ed also served as the President of the Virginia Crime Prevention Association, which networks law enforcement and citizens in the prevention of crime.
He has conducted numerous training classes for law enforcement officers and citizens at a number of national crime prevention conferences and for numerous community organizations. His efforts to educate, share and inform the community on safety issues have been featured in Teen People Magazine and he has appeared on Lifetime Channel, USA Today on-line, ABC News PrimeTime and even had been quoted in The Oprah Magazine.
During the 2018 NRA Carry Guard Expo, lawfully carried firearms will be permitted in the Greater Richmond Convention Center in accordance with Virginia law. When carrying your firearm remember to follow all federal, state, and local laws.
